I agree with TK about it being blank on the front.. The back appears to be Leavenworth, Hayden, Scovill .. a very early American backmark.. Only dug one w/ that backmark and it was military, so could be, but you'll probably never know

I agree with umrgolf2010 it appears to be military, the company is listed many times in Tice on one piece buttons as JML&WH SCOVILL, c. 1827-1840. there is one listing "* JML&WH SCOVILL*EXRTA RICH" but its for a raised mark your pictures look like the letters are depressed. Please advise I am still looking.

Thanks for all your efforts , it appears there is a mispelling here. more pix,
not a lot of help, button is in poor shape.
