Scovill Button Help - SOLVED

I found this button last weekend in NY . The legend on the back is SCOVILL MG CO WATERBURY. I believe the date range is 1850-1865 but I dont know anything about the obverse detail. Is this a military button? What does the 71 refer to?

Yes... apparently they carry a CW attribution, but I onl have this description so far. Quoted below:

"45. CIVIL WAR ERA PAIR OF EPAULETES , gilded
brass crescents and gold bullion fringe. Along with
a later pair, all cloth, each with a button inscribed
with “71” within a wreath.
Four pieces total. Second
half 19th century. 5” x 7”. Very good condition with
losses to backing. Estimate: $75 - $125."
