Scovill button? Boss of the Road

Here is a button. The only markings are on the front "boss of the road". The only information I could find was in a book that said it was manufactured by the Scovill Co. early 1900's. Anybody have more info?

Here in Calif., those are pretty common. They are from work clothing, and I've found them in areas dating from the late 1800s, up until the 1920s. Here's some of mine I've found:
