Cru'dad & I have been independently researching our new permission. Cru'dad from an Archie record point of view & me doing aerials. We came up with some hits & some match the landscape areas we had highlighted on our walk around. Nice when where we think we should hunt lines up with archie records & cropmarks. Problem is this landscape is pretty remote but at least it is cut throw by a Roman Road. We think most of our hits are Iron Age (Celtic) but having quickly looked at 1 field we think some might be Bronze Age as well. What we like to find is a transitional Site from Iron Age to Roman & the second field seem to have this combo. I found a pot mend & 1 Roman Coin. This is where we will grid next, but first impressions are that this site stopped in the 2nd C, bad when looking for lots of Roman coins but we only need 1 Celtic coin to make it worth it.
The Roman finds were scattered widely on the first field, so probably more to do with the Road than a Site. But if there is one we are on the trail...
We also found out they have another 400 acres that we didn't know about.
This was only a short 1 hour 45 minutes hunt by myself, detecting that is.
