We got out today for a short hunt scouting for a Colonial site We dug quite abit of iron, but in the mix I pull a sweet sound and dig it to Find my Second 1787 New Jersey Copper here in the State of Kentucky !!! I have been told that only 3 had ever been recorded found here in the bluegrass State and than I found one last year (the fourth) and now today will make the fifth. The detail on this one is Amazing with Great patina, I couldn't be happier to discover this giving so much History to think about.
My son found a 1937 Buffalo nickel and I was so hoping it was a 3 legger, how that would made a find of a Lifetime, but it is still has nice detail and Great for the display. We hope to get back there soon and see if we can recover more coppers and buttons.

Hh, Bill

Great detail! I wonder if the coins are linked? Congratulations, you've made some great finds in Kentucky.

I have got to hunt outside of Wayne County lol. Nice finds again from you!:icon_thumright:

Love that copper..

Awesome finds you should buy some lotto tickets the way your luck seems to be Good job!!!!

Without opening any reference book, it appears to be a Maris 48-g. Although it's a common variety, it quite a nice coin for a ground find. Way to go.

Beautiful coin. Congrats!

WTG Bill! Don is correct on it being a 1787 Maris 48-g variety, the 3rd most common variety in my survey of over 770+ NJ coppers. It is the 43rd one of that variety in the survey and 5th NJ found in KY. Bill, PM me the county found in please.

Thanks Don for the info, Very happy with it's condition. My first was toasted, just shows what a fertilized crop field does to the condition versus a field used for pasture.
