It was meant to be raining all day, but it stopped as soon as we arrived & gave us the short 2 hour 15 minute window that Land-Mag had available. Thanks to his research we now add this farm to our new permissions. It had been detected before but that never puts us off.
Although Saxon stuff had been recorded on this field, I never found much evidence of it, other than maybe a couple of bits of Pot & the odd little Square Headed Brooch.
What we do now know is that there is no Roman Site (although Land-Mag got a random coin) & that the field hasn't been done very well.
Below are all my finds from the short hunt;
2 Crotal Bells, 1 early fishscale type
Late 17th C Buckle
Saxon Brooch (Tiny)
Medieval Lead Seal Matrix (1350-1475) S'RAJVLFI:RAP - I've never had a lead shield shaped one before.:icon_thumright:
1580 Lizzy Threepence

That lead seal matrix is pretty interesting in many ways.
Nice hunt

Very Nice!!! Congrats!!!

I too like the lead seal. I also like the silver Lizzie, sharp details on that one.

Rain just stopped the first time since last night, good you found a break to get out. Nice Lizzy but the lead seal is something i've never seen before. Who owned that? Usually you think someone using a seal has the money to get at least a bronze one.

The lead seal matrix looks like it has the 6 balls from the Italian Medici family. These areas such as Florence and Mugello made a lot of stuff that was traded around, and you may be looking at a common sort of seal one of the traders might carry to mark their documents.

I assume it was a low level Merchant??

Cheers, not considered that. I thought they may have been the stars with the moon or a crude flower design.

I really like the lead seal, kinda cool.
Could I trouble you with an Idea on what this could be, I'm stumped. The spikey thing still rotates and all spikes are there.....boot spur?20191006_155357.jpg

Yeap, a late medieval Spur bit & Rowel. I've not had them together like that one.

Those are some nice finds Crusader. I like that 1580 Lizzy, the Lead Seal, and the Crotal bells.

That's amazing great job. Love your posts
