I found this neat brooch at my 1752 permission. Can anyone tell me what this is? The closest things I can find are the Scottish Crest that are surrounded by a strap and buckle but I can’t seem to find my specific crest. Any information is appreciated. I believe it’s brass. Thanks

Nice find Electricbutter.
My first thought is that it's a school pin, unfortunately due to the deterioration the detail on the front is unclear.
The metal looks more likely to be spelter or zinc, as opposed to brass. :icon_scratch:

"Spelter, while sometimes used merely as a synonym for zinc, is often used to identify a zinc alloy. In this sense it might be an alloy of equal parts copper and zinc, i.e. a brass, used for hard soldering and brazing, or as an alloy, containing lead, that is used instead of bronze. ... Spelter is soft and breaks easily."

Based on the design of the attachment pin, I'm thinking 1930s - 40s.

School pin is definitely possible. Ill check the local schools from the 30’s and 40’s,hopefully we can find a match. Thanks for the information I really appreciate it.

Congrats Electricbutter, nice find!

I agree with school pin. Without being able to read the writing, the elements on the crest's field may be indicative of a school that concentrated in vocational education as mine did in ancient Virginia.

You have a shock of wheat representing agriculture, a lamp representing education, some animals (perhaps pigs) representing animal husbandry and a sextant representing nautical studies or perhaps mathematics. A little research in your area's schools might be fruitful.

Best wishes!
