Hey there fellow MDers!
It's been a while since I last posted but I’ve enjoyed stopping in to read your posts. Much of my summer and fall last year was stolen by a backyard project.
I'm back at it this year in a new city park (former farm). Two weeks ago was the first time I’ve been to this park and I found a 1919 LC within 30 minutes (I probably killed it on the cleaning [emoji22]). That was the only notable thing on that trip but I figured the odds of not finding more stuff was slim if that’s what I find on my first hunt so I returned this past weekend.
On Saturday it didn’t take long to hit a bouncy but clear signal (~57-70). In the hole I pulled out a 1968 nickel. When I rescanned the hole, there was still something there. Given the high number on the bounce, I dug carefully and found a nickel (another ‘68) and dime with the unmistakable air of silver stuck together. The dime is 1949 but obviously lost around ‘68 being in the same hole as the two ‘68s and actually stuck to one.
Moving along, came to a solid 76-77 signal on the ATP. I actually thought this was going to be an old twist off cap for Cola but dug carefully anyway. As soon as I saw the green I knew I had another LC. Not wanting to kill this one too, I put it in a baggie with some of the damp dirt to prevent it drying. At home, I got it clean enough to see it’s a 1909 (my first Edward).
The ring was buried under 3 Molson Beer cans and showed up once they were cleared. Turned out to be a dud but I was hopeful. Last cool find was the $8+ in twoonies, loonies and other coins in one coin spill. That find was my cue to bail. Definitely had nothing to do with the cold fingers...
Returned Sunday and gridded some more in the same area. Found this Farthing which I was excited about. Only my second old British coin (1923).
Last interesting find of the day was something I’m not sure about. These gears and face were all stacked as one unit. Seems clockish but if it was a pocket watch, where’s the case? Seems unlikely I’d find it like that without a case? Any ideas? You’ll see a similar chunk in my group shot slightly separated. I found that about five feet away.
Happy hunting.
