SUPER finds man!! I myself have found LOTS of Silver in School yards,mostly Jewelry.

I had read on here that to clean silver you wet your thumb and index finger in water and put a dab of baking soda on these fingers. Then rub the coin in between the two fingers. Tried it with a 1944 merc and it looked beautiful. I don't think I would do anything at all to any key date coins.
 

If I'm not mistaken baking soda has some abrasives in it so be aware of that. It will shine up nice yes but under a loop you will see abrasion on the surface of the coin.

And of course those abrasions and "unnatural" shine will greatly reduce the value of any coin, as I'm sure you all probably know. To get a better idea, just check out ebay for slabbed coins that say "improperly cleaned" in the description and see how little they sell for compared to the same exact coin that was not mistreated...of course if you don't care, then scrub away, it's your coin! :tongue3:
