School me on the White's IDX Pro....

Hello All,
I just picked up an White's IDX Pro and was hoping I could get some info on it. I was curious if anyone had any tips/tricks for it? I have also been reading a little about the Mr. Bill Mod and was hoping I could get some more info on this as well, to see if the mods are worth the $$ spent? I have been using a White's Prizm II and feel the IDX is a similar machine only better with more adjustment/depth. I did get to take it out to a local Park today for a couple hours and really really liked the way it feels and operates.

Thanks in advance

use it as is for now, the mods are good, really depends on your soil conditions, the idx's are great machines, pick up the 5.3 coil for trashy sites, they have good depth and a fast audio responce, dont have some of the functions of high end machines but the performance is there

I mainly use my MXT, but I have an IDX with BILL's mods. The IDX's with their 2 filter circuits allow you to really sweep the coils VERY slow. The slow sweep with an 5.3 coil makes this one of the best Whites detectors for areas littered with man made trash (nails). You can also use all the coils of the 6k models like the XLT.

The IDX units lack VDI and depth readings and have fewer discrimination segments than my MXT. The IDX models are also silent search detectors. Bill gives you an adjustable threshold and an adjustable GB. These really help the IDX get deeper in less than perfect ground. He also tweakes the gain ( boost circuit). This gives the IDX more gain than the pro. I really think the biggest gain is in being able to adjust the GB. Rob

well said Rob, and Scooter being in Co. it would probably help, but would still get use to it before sending it out for mods, so when you get it done you be able to see the differences

Re: School me on the White's IDX Pro....

Thanks for the great advice everyone,
So far I really like the IDX and will take your advice and use it this summer as is and then maybe send it in for mods this winter when the ground is frozen and covered in snow

Thanks again,
Scooter

A few other notes regarding the IDX Pro. The Black Sand toggle is more than a beach switch as it effectively lowers the discrimination setpoint when activated and provides a more selective target rejection in iron trash compared to normal discrimination mode. I'm a big fan of the 5.3 coils on the 6.59kHz detectors but the 350 Snooper is outstanding on the Classics in heavy trash of all kinds. HH Bill

If you can find a BigFoot, give that a try. I never used my IDX Pro much until I put one of those on it. In clean areas you'll cover a lot of ground fast and it's easy to pin-point with.
