Schieren Company item - ~1907

Dug this beautiful item on Saturday. Love the green patina on it. Only problem I don't really know what it is. Might just be a decorative piece or something you would put on a desk. The writing on it refer to the Schieren Company which was based in NY and to its Duxbax Waterproof Leather Belting product which was created in 1907. You will notice some engraving on the bottom. Hard to read. I believe it Says "Griffin Newark #1".
It's 2.5" in diameter. Too small to be an ashtray. If you know what it is, please let me know.
