Nice find. If thrown in a fire it would probably explode. Most people get them defused by experts.

This one unfortunately did not have the fuse. It was full of mud. I also found a piece to the cannon in the same hole. We think these were possibly buried while in retreat.

Wow great find I know 30 years ago that would be a good find, but in this day and age that is a great find. Beautiful , intact in my opinion a banner find. I cant recall seeing one posted in?????. Congrats

What a beauty! Schenkl shells have long been considered among the most dangerous to defuse (outside of navel shells) because they were so well constructed, often powder is still dry after all these years. man, I envy you. What a sweet dig.

Amazing find! You get that in TN?

Gotta be freakin kiddin wow that is crazy Good job.. Thanks for sharing!!!!!

DAMNNNNNNNNNNNN WHAT A HAEL OF A FIND , CONGRATS ..

Nice Find !
Too bad you didn't tell us the story in your First post .
I would have liked to read about the site the hunt, the other finds & the shell in detail.

I'm Nosy

Sorry, I try not to post many details on location out of respect for the property owners.

It was a normal day besides digging the shell. Nothing else much to note. This location has seen decades of relic hunting.

I used the White's V3, Gain 4, Single 7.5kHz Frequency, 10Hz Band, in Relic Mode with ground tracking locked. It was over a foot in the ground and rang up as a solid high tone, probably due to both large iron objects laying on top of each other in the hole.

Knew I had the story of my Dad's buddy somewhere. relic hunters have been making old things go "boom" for years . . .
