Ok...
First... they are not silver...
Second they are not "buttons"...

They are cufflinks... that have been through heck and back.

They could have been part of a set... in other words... not cufflinks... but "clip ons".

They look either Templar and Jesuit. Looks to have some code on them.

First they are not cufflinks, I know what cufflinks are...they have shank backs..as a button does

For the record... Prior to the 1930's (give or take a decade), the cuffs of a mans dress shirt were held together by two small buttons with a link or a short chain between them. That's why they are called cufflinks.
