I detected another street project yesterday and got three Indian head cents. One was a scarce date 1872.
The other two were 1884 and 1887. I also found some type of antique hair thingy, a Bennington marble, a Palmolive, soap token and an old button.
My detecting buddy got a large cent but was unable to get a readable date.
Here is the site we hunted.

if you take foil and put over the coin that you can't read the date sometime you can get the impression off of so you can see it.. Great idea! with as many roads in PA they tear up I should never run out of spot to dig!

Hey bk, nice finds. I especially like the palmolive token. I found one of those a few months back. If I remember correctly PBK said it was from the mid 1920's, WTG.

Congrats BK, the street project goes on. Nice finds. I thought of you after seeing a redo project downtown, they had the street stripped down to the old trolley tracks!! Cobblestone and concrete to go! Very busy next couple of weeks so don't hold much hope of detecting- also have an eye on an old school being made into condos.
Too many sites- not enough time. Why didn't I start this Hobby in My single days??
Keep up the good finds- Winter approaches!! LOL ;) ;) ;)

I do believe bk me and you are the only ones to post 72 indian heads on here.

Nice Finds!!! I think that hairy thing could be a sterling Man-o-war !!! lol

Happy Hunting!

Good stuff BK!

How come they don't fence off any of the projects around your area?! If they so much as sweep the street around here they put up a razor wire fence with guard dogs. (maybe a slight exaggeration)

bk, I don't know the markings of that button specifically, but I can tell you it looks like it's from the so called "golden age" of gilded buttons. Without looking up specifics for that maker, I'd place it between the 1830's and 1850's. Generally I'd call that a "flower button" for its motif. These were popular in that time period, especially in the early 1840's.

I know that if a long soak in olive oil does not help those Indians ( the best method) yopu can use Amonia it will clean the grren disease off , quickly but Might leave some sign .. but you have to take off the Green death or it will effect other coins.. nic e finds by the way i dont Know much about buttons , but it does look like a Mid 1800's piece :)

Awesome BK!

Nana ;)
