OMG!!! DID I JUST FIND A SCALPEL FROM THE CIVIL WAR?

Wanted to ask everyone what they thought of this relic? I found this knife at the same site I found my CS oval buckle and 2 Alabama Volunteer Corp coat buttons. I swear it looks just like a scalpel. This thing is heavy and still very sharp! My father, who is a relic hunter, seems to think it might be an oyster knife that was used by the Confederates when they were here in 1861-2 but I disagree. The Confederate blob nosed Gardner was found near it and is for size reference. As you can tell I have electrolycized the knife. Now if I could only get a positive ID on it! I have included 2 pictures of documented scalpels (medical kits) used during the Civil War at museums around the country. So..... what do you think? Scalpel, oyster knife or something else? Commonly, and by chance, wherever there have been battles there were medics. Doc left his scalpel behind while attending to others. That is as cool a find as the Gardner. I truly believe it's a scalpel! Seen them about that size and that crusted before.

medical instruments make the war real.. Cool fimd
