Won this item from an England seller back in 1999... back when most of the listings were auctions and many times you could get HUGE bargains from stuff that slipped through the cracks. Anyway, won this for around $15 and ever since, have completely failed to identify it (didn't get any info on it either from the seller). The interlocking design is very typical of the Saxon/Viking era in England but...... I would think if it was from that period and from England, that there would be a greenish patina on it by now.
It's lightweight, probably made of brass. As you can see, completely blank on the reverse. Is this the sort of thing that a, say, Victorian artisan would have made to simulate Saxon/Viking artistry? Is there a chance it could actually BE Saxon/Viking period? Any thoughts welcome.
