I recently found this mount of a face that I've had various opinions on ranging from Roman,Saxon, medieval,Tudor even have been told it's a religious artifact of Martin Luther! So I'm really stumped and would really appreciate any help of a certain id

Thanks fingers crossed someone can help solve the mystery! My initial thought was Roman or Saxon as I found it on a field that is rich in Saxon and Roman finds but the hat really puzzles me

Very interesting piece, hope you solve the mystery! :occasion14:

That's a tough ID to start with?

We will need a picture of the reverse as well to give us more clues.

We can rule out Saxon as it looks more brassy than bronze. Although it has a Medieval style to it I suspect its post-medieval. Just not sure what it went on?

Very interesting, I also want to see the back. I'd defer to cruteam but the headwear looks like a Tudor flat cap to me. Dunno if icons/figurines of people like Thomas Beckett or Henry VII etc. were a thing 500 years ago? Just spitballing but would such pieces have been mounted to Catholic holy relic caskets c. 1500?

Odd. The attachments are not consistent with leather or wood. Can't even guess what it went on. But looking brass to me dates it to the post-medieval period, I can even see some tooling backing up that period.

Thanks mate :occasion14:hopefully the flo will be able to resolve the mystery

Someone said it was 14th century boat mount but God knows?

If you get an update, please put it on here, I'll be interested if
a) they can ID it at all
b) if they can what it went on
