While bank fishing I spotted something sticking out of the mud that met my criteria for further investigation. It was too round to be natural and I could also see a straight edge. Reached out with a long stick and moved it closer producing a cloud of silt, made a few more casts while waiting for the cloud to float downstream. Repeated this 4 times until it was close enough to reach and pulled it out.

Cleaned it up with 10 amps for about 4 hours. Turned out to be a sawed off 12GA. It had probably been in plain sight for years. People just don't see things.

COOL!! Wouldn't you love to know the story behind that one? Nice job on the preservation!

"met my criteria for further investigation, too round to be natural and I could also see a straight edge" - Cheeserock you've a good eye and I certainly understand and appreciate your criteria though I'd never put it into those words before however the moment I read your statement I smiled inside as I knew exactly what you meant. Good observation, the preservation method is quite interesting, what did you use on the negative lead, cathode I believe it would be called with the find being the anode, yes?

I shot my first deer with that same model shotgun. Awesome find

Dig until your arm falls off

Yep, would love to know the history of that gun, good eye!!

I hate to say it but it was probably used in the commission of a robbery or murder, then somewhat dismantled and tossed into the river. You might want to turn it over to local Law Enforcement so the Serial Number can be traced and see if it leads back to an individual suspected of a crime.

Frank

No serial numbers on this model made in the early 50's.

Simple cleaning. Negative to the barrel, positive to the 2 steel rods. Solution of salt water and baking soda changed 3 times. Wash with Dawn dish soap and a coating of Remoil.
