Sault Ste Marie Michigan city maps prior too 1850 needed.

There is a 1909 St. Mary's River map on ebay now that looks ok, but not sure if this will help you.
You can do a search for the Chippewa county MI historical society or Sault Ste. Marie historical society.
The city now was called Le Sault de Sainte Marie in 1820, the name shortened to Sault Ste. Marie in 1823 and was incorporated as the village of St. Mary in 1849 and re incorporated as Sault Ste. Marie in 1879, then incorporated as a city in 1887.
As of 1840 the preliminary land surveys for the lower peninsula were completed but the preliminary land surveys for the upper peninsula were not completed until 1851.
So prior to the year you are looking for there were mostly French ribbon farms (private claims) along the St. Mary's river, mixed in with the Native American homes.
I don't know if there are any Village of St. Mary's MI maps out there, but you could do a search for those also.
There is a website called bussineau.com/earlymaps.htm that shows some crude hand sketches of early Sault Ste. Marie that may be of interest to you. I don't know if these sketches depict the Canadian side or not.
Try bussineau.com, click on english and look for "early sault" and click on that if the above link does not work.
There are also lots of michigan census documents on line if you are looking for people.
Hope this helps,
Jon
