Today dawned bright and sunny, but rain and thunder forecast…. So we decided to head to the field and see if we could get a few hours in… couple of heavy rain/hail showers but then the wind picked up… 40 mph 😳 ….! But we are seasoned professionals now… so we popped our headphones on and off we went!

so tonight for your viewing pleasure we have a stunning clothes fastener… a little harness mount (?) a Possible seal… if you look there looks to be a J on it at the top… it showed up better when photographed that way, top of a thimble, 2 musket balls, gorgeous button, 2 tiny buttons, pot mend and lock more buttons, couple of bits of different pottery, then to the coins…7 Roman … a farthing, and a octagonal coin (?) … and yes that is our first Silver Roman from this field… and yes I found it 😎 xx

this poor little bee got blown into the truck so a quick pose for a picture and then I helped him back out! 😍

Congrats!
That Roman is a stunner.
Lots of goodies though.
And yes the hook....
A wool cloak closure for the more fortunate, or our simple but vital wool blanket about us in the fog this cold night.
A smell of smoke , but hearing the dogs refuse to calm , it's not safe to go back to our own hearths.
Or to strike a fire here.

(A tune to browse your finds there with; in my imagination anyways.)

[The Queen of Light took her bow
And then she turned to go
The Prince of Peace embraced the gloom
And walked the night alone
Oh, dance in the dark of night
Sing to the morning light
The dark Lord rides in force tonight
And time will tell us all
Oh, throw down your plow and hoe
Rest not to lock your homes
Side by side we wait the might
Of the darkest of them all
I hear the horses' thunder
Down in the valley below
I'm waiting for the angels of Avalon
Waiting for the eastern glow
The apples of the valley hold
The seeds of happiness
The ground is rich from tender care
Repay, do not forget, no, no
Oh, dance in the dark of night
Sing to the morning light
The apples turn to brown and black
The tyrant's face is red
Oh the war is common cry
Pick up you swords and fly
The sky is filled with good and bad
That mortals never know
Oh, well, the night is long
The beads of time pass slow
Tired eyes on the sunrise
Waiting for the eastern glow
The pain of war cannot exceed
The woe of aftermath
The drums will shake the castle wall
The ringwraiths ride in black
Ride on
Sing as you raise your bow
Shoot straighter than before.
No comfort has the fire at night
That lights the face so cold
Oh dance in the dark of night
Sing to the mornin' light.
The magic runes are writ in gold
To bring the balance back
Bring it back
At last the sun is shining
The clouds of blue roll by
With flames from the dragon of darkness
The sunlight blinds his eyes
Oh, bring it back, bring it back
Bring it back, bring it back
Bring it back, bring it back
Bring it back, bring it back
Oh now, oh now, oh now
Oh now, oh now, oh now
Bring it back, bring it back
Bring it back, bring it back
Oh now, oh now, oh now
Oh now, oh now, oh now
Bring it, bring it, bring it
Bring it, bring it, bring it
Bring it, bring it, bring it
Bring it, bring it, bring it]

fantastic romans. I love the silver one. I looks to have had most of the edges shaved off as the legends are all gone. I'd be curious to know more about it

Yes def clipped …. But We think its a Siliqua of Gratian circa 367-383 AD. Its not quite the same but the closet we have found so far … !!

It Would have said…

Obverse: DN GRATIA-NVS PF AVG, pearl diademed, draped, cuirassed bust right.
Reverse: VIRTVS ROMANORVM, Roma seated facing, head left, on
throne, holding globe and reversed spear.

What a great day of detecting you had.
Congrats on the beautiful silver, and those bronzes are looking better with every hunt..
The clothing fastener is a sweet one.
Best of luck with next hunt.

Without the lettering it will be near impossible to attribute it to Gratian, as Honorius & Arcadius had the same heads & reverse types.

''octagonal coin (?)'' - Is very little a 17th C Token.
