I got to go back to my regular water hole and did pretty good. Sorry no instu photos my camera went for a swim and it does not swim very good.:BangHead: I have it in rice at the moment hoping it will come back to life. saturdays hunt 4.jpgsaturdays hunt 5.jpg This Dalton was my 1st find and it's made out of a real chalky stone that I don't see how in the world they made the point. You can see they had a little trouble on one side but it blows me away that there were not major hinges due to the type of stone. Then I found what looks to be a crude stone gorget, with some lines on the face of it. I wont to clean it a little but I hate to remove any of the creek stain or patina. It looks like they tried to start 3 more holes, 1 to the left that you can see very well, another in the center just below the 2 drilled holes and also at the bottom part of the gorget. It's a very thin piece of stone, I believe it was a natural stone already made to shape, almost like a heart.saturdays hunt.jpgsaturdays hunt 1.jpgsaturdays hunt 2.jpgsaturdays hunt 3.jpg I just got new snake boots and man I don't wont to say I need a new camera, I may have to sleep in my truck for awhile.:laughing7:

2 interesting pieces.

Look at that Gorget! Man just to find anything drilled is a thrill. No telling with the material on that Dalton. Maybe a kid was learning the craft and had to prove it on some not valuable material. I think many points I find were made by the kids learning the skill hundreds and thousands of years ago,,, haha
Nice hunt !

2 cool pieces you got there... Looks like you found a good spot

All Daltons are not the same. There are really old Daltons (Paleo) and then there are some Daltons that are a thousand or two years younger. Some call the them transitional Paleo but my thoughts are they were made while stemmed points had become the norm. What you found is a really old Dalton made IMO during the later end of the Simpson/Suwannee era peoples. Most of the ones I have found are not that old. Nice finds.

Hey rack!! Very nice finds!! CONGRATS!! Sorry about your camera, mine didn't swim worth a darn either!! Anyway, GOOD LUCK and GOOD HUNTING!! VERDE!!

Cool finds. If you are on the western side of Mississippi, maybe you have a Pelican point or some other older cousin to a Dalton? Similar to Dalton, but as someone else the style looks a little older. Pelicans are commonly made from Citronelle gravel, some of the yellow chunks can be chalky. (Not sure if it started that chalky or if 10,000 years causes it to degrade a bit.)

Nice- I would freak if I found that gorget thing! Amazing.....

The drilled piece cleaned up nicely is it sandstone?

I'm not real sure of what type of stone it is, but when you hold it in the sun you can see silica here and there. It's not a real soft stone, you cant scratch it with your finger nail.
