Wow what a perfect spring day! Positively warm, no mud, I fairly sailed about the field today, even shedded my outer layer of clothing 😎 xx

We went back to the race course field as we just love it here! First off I found this amazing octagonal lead weights! What a cracker, then we have a Roman Nail, put a musket ball along side to give you an idea of size, then the muskets and bobbin shot, little belt/strap loop, 2 odd little pieces, found these near a wet hole that I found on LiDAR, little buckle, part of a buckle frame still has a little bit of gold gilt on, decorative bit, buttons, 2 tokens and an 1884 Victoria penny! Alas I didn’t find the rest of the trumpet/horn… but there is always tomoz! xx 😆

I'm guessing that was a coat. 😱

I found this amazing octagonal lead weights!
That is really neat. Do you know what it was used for?

Great photography, as usual. :icon_thumright:

Have a boo at # 7476 of this link.

Good to see you folks out enjoying the spring weather.
Slightly green around the gills looking at those fields.

Lots of the musket balls I have found and others I see on this site including the ones you show in this post are unfired. A huge number of them were made and distributed around the world. When trying to load a gun, or get a ball out of a pouch, the ball is easy to drop and hard to find in the grass and weeds. A hunter or soldier would want to get his gun back in action quickly, not hunt around for a dropped ball. That's my speculation about why we find so many. I've found many in this relatively unpopulated part of the former British empire. I still enjoy finding them.

Carrying enough for shooting events off the target range here in the states often entailed a couple dozen rounds minimum. A couple hundred possible on a weekend depending how well a participants nervous flinch at shooting was doing.
Some of the events involved a lengthy woods walk with shooting stations scattered along.

A hot day and with heavy rifle plus the other accoutrements and paraphernalia plus... Extra rounds can nag when wanting to shed some weight.
Some military or military units required X amount of rounds to start a march.
I wouldn't be surprised if someone discreetly "dropped" some weight in time.

But yes some were just plain drops.
Winter snow or darkness. Fast activity on the move...

Congrats!
Lots of goodies.

Field pictures are good to laugh at for size and scope.
I could only hope for tunnel vision on a graph to search thoroughly by the inch. While instead someone wandering about aimlessly intuitively turns up something remarkable.

What a great day! Another winner...
