Haven't posted in a while , was at a local park and dug this about 10 inches deep in loose leafy soil and was in a sock... wasn't there all that long cuz the wood grips weren't rotted , came apart easily and even the recoil spring worked and wasn't rotted .. it looks like the serial numbers were drilled down just enought to get rid of them..
Whoever owned this figured out real quick that these were known to hardly ever fire 2 consecutive rounds without malfunction and tossed the magazine lol...
I guess you could say these cheap junk guns were " single shot that identified as a semi auto"
Lol

Nice!!!! Congrats!!!

That might have been involved in a crime. I think I would have turned that into the police. It might help solve a cold case.

Well done on the recovery.
Some have suggested to you that it should turn it into the police as it might help solve a crime.
Serial numbers are not available.
Perp ran through park, got caught with wearing only one sock.
The LEOs are missing this piece of the puzzle to convict.
:dontknow:
All I know is I would be charged even showing up at the station.
Just because they can do crap like that up here.
Best of luck.

Don't assume that because the serial number was drilled out that the number can't be restored enough to be legible. Various acids can enhance the numbers since the density of the metal under the number is greater than the surrounding area due to the compression of the metal from stamping. In other words, if the gun was used in a crime, it's still possible a crime lab would be able to determine the number. All depends on how deeply the numbers were originally stamped and how deeply the numbers were drilled out.

Any gun with intentionally damaged/removed Serial number was most likely stolen at some point. The S/N only helps ID one or more owners. If you buy a stolen gun and get caught with it; the cops run the S/N and see it on a Stolen Gun List. You may roll over on the seller at that point. Hence the attempt to remove before selling. I would NEVER want to own stolen guns.

Normally I'd say keep it. But with the removed serial numbers I would also turn it in. Or wait for a buyback and get some cash out of it.

Wow, what a find... turning it in may give some closure to a family and maybe keep someone from committing another crime...would like to hear of any updates.

Thanks for sharing!

Would be fun to restore it back to working condition.

That should definitely be turned over to the police for forensic testing. Too many crimes go unsolved because there is no weapon found.
