Well Twistidd and I tried our luck at another old woods. We meet up with Kimsdad, Watercolor, DesPlainesSilverBob, and SkinnyPup. I did find 3 Wheaties but early on in the hunt a group of tots and parents surrounded me asking 100 questions so I gave them my first 2 wheat's (1934 & 1940), you should of seen their faces, you would of thought I gave them a gold coin or something. Their parents thanked me like 5 times. LOL

Well after a few hours I thought I gave away my best finds of the day!!!! Me and Twistidd went looking for another spot further in the woods but to no avail. On our way back I found my 3rd Wheaties and not 10 min later I saw a blue embossed bottle partially sticking out of the side of an embankment. I said "EMBOSSED BOTTLE" immediately me and Twistidd started scanning for more. LOL - I guess I was rewarded for being nice and giving away my little bit of treasure to the little kids. I'm not exactly sure of all that was found today but I know there was a sharp Barber quarter, a 1919s Merc, silver Rossie, more Wheaties and a lot of clad. Here is my finds...

An ugly gold plated pin or something.

Any info on the bottle would be great like a time period or anything approximate age. Could it be from the 20's or 30's or a little bit older? It does have a seam that ends just below the lump of the lip of the bottle (like an inch below the very top). Is it a water or soda bottle? This is my 2nd embossed bottle that I found. It also has a lot of air bubbles in it and it has some chips but I am super happy that I saw it and that it was in-tacked when I pulled it out.

Hey TF, it was great to get together today! I wish there were more silver finds, but you take what you get, and it would have been a great time even without any finds! (I wish there were more fireplaces around like we had at the grove today.)

That bottle is great!!!

It's going to look mighty fine on display. I can't believe how it stayed together after all these years out there. ;D

Oh man my feet were freezing out there!!! That fireplace sure did come in handy!!! :tongue3:

I'll add what little I know about bottles. The bottle making machine was invented in the early 20th century and after that, bottles were molded completely. The seam goes from the bottom to the top of the lip. Before that, the body of the bottle was molded and the lip applied later. The seam ends somewhere in the neck of the bottle. The rule of thumb is: the higher the seam goes, the newer the bottle. Hope that helps a little.

Nice bottle! I think the Germans threw everything on the fields and it's all broke up in little pieces now. Has to be some intact dumps somewhere, LOL. HH, Mike

Awesome bottle

Your bottle and Mark's Barber were awesome.

High Fives.

I got skunked but I figured out why but it was the next day. Headphone problems..

Hey, Treasurefind, I'm jealous of that bottle!

According to this website: http://www.geocities.com/findinglincolnillinois/factories.html
your bottle has to be made after 1942.

I have a stupid noob question: You said after you found it you were scanning for more bottles. I'm assuming you mean visually, since I don't think the MDs detect glass? (Oh, I just KNOW this is a totally stupid question...)

Thanks -

Wildheart

Wildheart, while I was NOT scanning for bottles, just hunting in the woods of a park that is real super old, I dug up this bottle. I thought the same as you, "How come my machine detected this"? Because there was a " HUTCHINSON " Stopper in it, that's why........

Hutchinson bottles are great finds! The earliest (and rarest) Coca Cola bottles are "Hutch" bottles.

I love finding the old bottles, they are added bonuses of metal detecting!

Congrats!
