Well Twistidd and I tried our luck at another old woods. We meet up with Kimsdad, Watercolor, DesPlainesSilverBob, and SkinnyPup. I did find 3 Wheaties but early on in the hunt a group of tots and parents surrounded me asking 100 questions so I gave them my first 2 wheat's (1934 & 1940), you should of seen their faces, you would of thought I gave them a gold coin or something. Their parents thanked me like 5 times. LOL

Well after a few hours I thought I gave away my best finds of the day!!!! Me and Twistidd went looking for another spot further in the woods but to no avail. On our way back I found my 3rd Wheaties and not 10 min later I saw a blue embossed bottle partially sticking out of the side of an embankment. I said "EMBOSSED BOTTLE" immediately me and Twistidd started scanning for more. LOL - I guess I was rewarded for being nice and giving away my little bit of treasure to the little kids. I'm not exactly sure of all that was found today but I know there was a sharp Barber quarter, a 1919s Merc, silver Rossie, more Wheaties and a lot of clad. Here is my finds...

An ugly gold plated pin or something.

Any info on the bottle would be great like a time period or anything approximate age. Could it be from the 20's or 30's or a little bit older? It does have a seam that ends just below the lip of the bottle. Is it a water or soda bottle? This is my 2nd embossed bottle that I found. It also has a lot of air bubbles in it and it has some chips but I am super happy that I saw it and that it was in-tacked when I pulled it out.

Re: Sat hunt in yet another new woods.

TF, I'm really glad you & Twistidd were able to hunt with us today. . . it was
a great time and a pleasure to finally meet. . . we'll have to do it again soon.

That bottle is absolutely wonderful! I'm glad you were able to find it intact.

Take care,
watercolor

Kovel's lists a Lincoln Beverage from Chicago in ACL 7oz at $350 but that's an outdated listing I'm sure. Your's looks more like an aqua, maybe 12-16 oz and it says Lincoln Bottling, a nice looking find. Soda or beer bottle either way it looks like a nice addition!

Sweet!

Ditto, Fiend!

Not a bad haul on a cold day. I'm not a bottle guy, but I'd definitely save that one.

Sweet hunt TreasureFiend! You guys must have been in the middle of nowhere for that bottle to go un-noticed for all that time. Maybe not though if kids and parents are wandering around there ;-) So if the ACL is worth $350, what is the Aqua worth? What's the date range on that style of bottle?

I was told that its from about 1907 to 1915.

I know 100 years old isn't super duper or anything when you consider how far back history books tell tales of our past, but anything you can dig up out of the ground that's older than your grandparents is pretty stinking cool in my book. Your bottle collecting makes me want to work on the displaying of my finds this winter. Some kind of display case for the best of the best would be cool.

I don't have much glass yet only 4 100yrs old or so, 2 from the 20's and 2 from the 50's-60's, but I wanna buy a nice shelf or cabinet to desplay them. Right now they are just sittin on my airconditioner... :tard:

Fiend, don't even start! Check out the local bottle collecting clubs if you can find them first, see what they do and how. It's a fine art, but you will find people are as much or more finnicky about their bottle collecting than almost anything else. Careful though, it may turn you into a glass mercenary!

Those pit diggers are the primary reason "digging" and we md'ers were lumped into the lot, was banned from Kane County FP's along with many other places.

Tim, that's interesting. . . earlier this year kimsdad and I were hunting one of the north FP's and we found an area that looked like it had been under mortar attack. . . HUGE holes everywhere (I lost count after 18). . . we must of spent 20-minutes filling those suckers back in >:(

Yeah, I was specifically told by a Kane County FP official at the time they banned md'ing that we were lumped into the same lot as bottle diggers/privy diggers and that PO'ed me big time. Down by Maywood you'll find the diggers out there in the winter time along the river just tearing it up. They know they won'y get disturbed by hikers for the most part.

I take bottles from open holes, mostly washed out gulleys after rains, creekbeds, etc.. Also dig them at construction sites where allowed. I've gathered a couple thousand that way. Shame them folks who have no regard for the results of their behavior.

I was going to say, why would winter time be bottle digging season with the ground being frozen? But it makes sense now because they are trying to be incognito. Maybe they will start respecting the land now that there are laws being placed against them. If they just filled in their holes nicely it probably wouldn't be an issue.

Yeah Brett, but the problem is the laws apply to us, and like so many poorly researched and well-intentioned rules, the bad guys do not play by them to begin with! We need more md'ers in public office!

Lowbatts 2012???

No, I'm on an extremely LOW-power trip. Better find someone likeable!
