I took these photos today,in the Santa suzana mts, 1st photo is Lizard head ,2nd is a shallow cave,3&4th are pictographs I think indian, not 100% positive,5th is a part of a old stage trail. Not shown is a natural rock arch,,and some 45/70 shells I found. Location is full of buried stage coach loot stories, the outlaw vasquez, and early Spanish explorers lore, involveing buried treasure. A fully loaded slot machine was discovered in these mts. in a cave 20 years ago. Location is South of the 118 freeway near Topanga cyn.Lots of new houses now close in,but still searchable.

Re: Santa suzana mts., Lizard head rock/Caves IndianPictographs/stage trails/pho

looks like a duck to me too...

Kinda looks like a Muscovy duck's head with the typical aerial-bombed seagull decoration. (For those you that are not familiar with coastal California, the Seagull is our version of your pigeon) (Same internal plumbing and everything they eat just turns to $&%@)

Curious of how it was named 'Lizard Head' though.

Although Muscovys are primative and look like they are left over from the Jurasic Period.

you guys are right it does look like a duck, and maybe a turtle to.if the temp.will ever drop from 110 degrees to maybe 80, I can get back out their and photograph another 7 caves i located, then map them out on a chart, and search each one. I also located a few more glyphs, and found that some have been defaced.I know what i am searching for,and wont say, however if I find any non-descript relics I will post them.I dont know where the Lizard head name came from, found it in a old book, that led me to this local. Perhaps that is a different rock monument.I also need a snake bite kit and leg chaps.

Leg chaps are a must in these areas, and a good snake bite kit could be a snake round (22 cal pistol w/birdshot).

Temp in SoCal, as you are aware, is in the triple digits and the ground temp could be 130 - 140 degrees...bring plenty of water.

HI: Your rock "duck" looks similar to the carving in the cave on the left.

the duck is looking towards the fish (spring ?).

Apparently about 1/3 of the distance from the duck to the fish there is a vertical cut ???? Could that be what you are looking for?

What part of the Santa Susannas? Over by Rocky Peak Rd, you can still find remnants of the Manson Family, if you know where to look. They used to roam all over the area North of Rocky Peak. You can still find hundreds of .22 cal casings. Some theirs, most not.

Ok guys good advice/direction, Stephen, I am takeing plenty of water and 12ga shotgun shells, Tin-Rino, I will let you know about your offer, after i check my caves, thanks, Realde you could be right as rain which i would like to see soon,I will check out the crevice,I did not notice it before,
thanks for the clue,Mike, the old ranch Manson stayed at is now homes, but their were rumors of buried treasure there. Rockey Peak is close to my hunting area, but not at that location. I have found Indian pottery at Rockey Peak, and I located a old church off of Topanga canyon, where Spanish explorers camped. Their is more buried out there ,than will ever be found.photos are of a 45/70 shell, and a 12ga shell for my sawed off pump, for them snakes and other nasty critters.

did you ever find anything?

Hmmm, those don't look like any prehistoric petroglyphs I've ever seen.
