A metal detecting friend of mine found this unique bronze platter (all pcs found).

Likely an anniversary platter for Columbus discovery of America.

Any ideas of age and origin?
I know very little about sailing ships but I see a high sterncastle and two same size masts.

It was found in Denmark.

Undeterminable based current photos (will get a close-up of flag/banner), however the banner in center mast has 'Santa Maria'.

The mast heights observation is however very interesting.

Hard to get good close-up, but here it is: Santa Maria

We have already discovered that even broken items of yore have significant value when restored. If and when you are able to track down a value, you might check on getting it professionally repaired. Monty

What a spectacular find, and great work putting it back together!

Looks Arts and Crafts to me, so 1892 would work. Keep in mind the Santa Maria banner doesn't have to be Columbus' ship. Many Spanish ships of that day had a statue of Mary on the aftermost deck, and crosses on the sails.

Thanks all the help and comments on this platter :icon_thumright: My dad did have the museum check it out and they do believe the motive is the flagship Santa Maria. Presumably made in 1892 in connection with the 400 year anniversary of Columbus voyage to the new world.

Green check

Possibly an item from the 1893 WORLD'S COLUMBIAN EXPO? I saw a couple of different souvenir plates with the Santa Maria though none were bronze.
