Norfolk Dredging ceased operations on June 22nd due to the onset of rough seas and the approach of tropical storm conditions. Tropical Storm Debby moved into the region on June 23rd. Strong 20+ knot southeast, south, and southwest winds persisted from June 24th through June 26th. On the morning of June 28th, Norfolk Dredging begin remobilizing for dredging and were pumping sand onto the beach by 8 p.m. near Dan’s Island (1660 Gulf Blvd.) and moving southward. On June 29th the Corps’ storm damage assessment team arrived at Sand Key to begin their evaluation of beach erosion in the wake of Tropical Storm Debby.
