Google earth has one great feature for old maps

Here is an example

Then i put them together interactive in google earth to help locate points

sanborn works really well if you can find them but you can also scan topos an import them then you can fade them in an out as an overlay
 

How did you do the overlap? thru google? I havent figured that part out yet.

i tried that once with my google earth but i couldnt size the overlay properly, and then once i realized i messed up, i couldnt undo what i did. granted, i am computer retarted ::) but it was super frustrating. to fix it i had to uninstall google earth, and download a different version. it looks like it works great for you though. maybe someday i will give it another shot and see if i cant figure it out.
