The 1849 daguerreotype is the earliest datable photograph taken in Texas. It shows the front of the Alamo chapel. It is the only known photograph of the Alamo taken before the 1850 reconstruction that added the distinctive curved gable to the top of the church facade.

Thanks Don for that post. I've always loved San Antonio, and I collect old pictures (usually postcards) of the Alamo and try to see how far back I can go.

That picture is obviously the Holy Grail of Alamo photos, and in a sense, maybe the Holy Grail of all early photos, IMO. I need to go see it in person, if they have it on display.
 

I want to step into that pic someday
