safari

I have never owned the Safari, but have owned and used Quattros.Compared to the Explorers the response is very slow. The Quattro is deep but the handicap of the slow response is difficult. For instance in lots of trash it became almost useless,to cover ground with a too quick sweep you can even miss surface coin targets.I really wanted to like this detector because of the better menu setup, but for my type of hunting it won't work as well as other metal detectors.

The Safari goes just as deep .... new quicker recovery than the Quattro. Large numbers with the depth scale in the middle of the screen where easy to see. Hopes this helps, HH .. Okie Silver

They are almost the same but for some reason i liked the Quattro better.........Never did like the Explorers for some reason............

I think nobody could be disappointed with the depth of the Safari. In my air test, it gets a dime strong in discriminate mode to 11.5" so there's probably about no difference in depth between 10-20 or so of the best detectors ever.

There are many, many detectors made over the last 30+ years that have found a 10" deep coin or two. Many of the Minelab owners get those really deep coins more often (but the X-Terras are less deep IMO).

I got a used Safari because it has fewer adjustments than an Explorer & since the detector was only recently released, I knew the detector wasn't likely to have problems. Also ordered a Swingy Thingy (bungee harness) as I am not strong & the detector weighs 5.5 lbs w/batteries. Best wishes, George (MN)

I have a new to me Quattro. I put the 11" Pro coil on it and have to say I'm impressed with it on the beach. Pinpointing totally sucks, but the depth is great. I didn't seem to have a problem with slow recovery as others have written about it. It may be different once the season starts and there is more trash on the beach, we'll see.
