Very frustrated. Between not being able to get out a lot recently and the way my Safari has been acting, I definitely need a good, productive hunt soon. Anyways, need some help...
My Safari has been acting VERY erratic lately. Especially on my last 2 or 3 hunts. I normally run in high trash density (as I hunt in some trashy places) with the sensitivity on automatic. Almost always in relic or all metal mode. Always been fairly stable and never had any glitches or problems. However...
My last two hunts were TERRIBLE!!! Don't know why, but, the signals I was getting on the Safari seemed MUCH worse and erratic than usual. I tried everything to quiet her down; going into manual sensitivity and lowering it by half, swinging the coil slower, hitting the noise cancel button every few minutes or so, etc., etc., etc. Nothing seemed to work. If I tried anything other than all metal mode, the machine would null like crazy. To the point where I wouldn't hear my threshold for a good 4 or 5 seconds sometimes. If I put it into all metal, the symphony of sounds were obscene.
I am slowly starting to come to the conclusion that Minelabs are NOT the best units for hunting in trashy places. Sorry, just my own honest opinion and evaluation after running with it for many months now. Yes, it IS a deep machine (as the Minelabs are known for) and performance wise it is a solid 8 or 9 in my book. However, this is only true in relatively trash free sites IMHO.
I was out with a buddy of mine on my last two hunts. He was running a Fisher and had NO PROBLEM with any of the constant nulling, mixed erratic signals, etc. that I was running into. I had to give up on a few spots due to the constant nulling, inability of the Safari to lock onto a target and general insanity the sounds were giving me. My buddy then walked over with his Fisher and pulled a pocket watch and a merc. I know it's not me, so, any advice on how to quiet these Minelabs down in trashy spots while still maintaining superior performance?
So far, I haven't had any major complaints about the Safari. But, after seeing it's performance in trashy locales and ESPECIALLY after seeing how other brands compare to it in the same conditions, I'm really starting to miss my old MXT
