Hi gang! Just got home from vacation.. *sigh* The beach was a bust.. well as far as metal detecting goes anyway. Very little in the way of coin or bling... but I *DID* find a new truck. <smile> shells of all kinds... organic and metallic. Check out the 25 cal. shell in front of the truck. There were a lot of pull tabs and bottle caps of course, LOADS of them, but that's everywhere I go, not just the beach.
There was one other shell I found, but not exactly at the beach, but it's definitely HEAVY METAL!!!!
It's a 16 inch shell and they were fired from these guns..
They are the main guns on board the U.S.S. North Carolina. Val and I (my wife) drove up to Wilmington N.C. to tour the ship. Imagine hurling a small truck or SUV 20 miles away with one bang! Whew! That's a BIG gun!
Back to the beach later that day, still slow.. very slow.. this is the busiest it was our whole stay this week..
Oh well.. home again after a week at the beach. Vacation is nice, but it's always good to get home too. A good nights sleep in your own comfy bed, liesurely catching up on the newspaper reading, and mail. And of course getting out to do some metal detecting at one of the local parks, two actually. Swept a tot lot and playground at one park, didn't find diddly, but when I got to the ball park, well things took a turn for the better. I didn't break any records or anything but I certainly found more in an hour and a half than I did in three days at the beach. *sigh* That is until all the little league base ball players and their parents in their mini vans and SUV's started showing up for the afternoon game. Of course parking in the very place that I was searching. *sigh* Oh well, just means that there is still area to be detected for another time. <smile> A little over $3.60 in clad, a hair clasp, a small ring (plastic with some sort of gold and silver applique) a key, some pottery, a metal button, and of course a handfull of pull tabs.<shrug>
Not rich, not even close, but having fun and glad to be home. Maybe I'll have better luck tomorrow.<grin> I *am* still on vacation after all. <smile>
