Sacandaga river

HOLA amigo and WELCOME TO TREASURENET Moosedsl

Since no one has replied, I thought I would. I have not tried the Sacandaga, but there is good reason to expect there could be gold there as in many streams of the northeast - the gold having been brought there by glaciers and left when they retreated. Nuggets up to the size of dimes have been reported from northeastern rivers so you may find some nice specimens.

Look for rapids in the river, and dig samples from around big boulders or "riffles" in the river bed; these are natural gold traps. If you should find some black sands in your gold pan, you are likely in a good spot as this is a excellent indicator mineral. We know that gold exists in the area too, and NOT just from glaciers - at least one gold mine operated near Hadley starting 1898 and ran for almost two decades, but it was not rich enough to be profitable. The mine was named Sacandaga and was located about 1.5 miles from the hamlet of Hadley. This is not far from the river. Gold is now running close to $1000 per ounce, so perhaps these old mines like the Sacandaga deserve to be re-examined?

Don't be discouraged if you don't find gold in your first few pans of material, finding gold in the northeast takes patience, diligence, and a bit of luck. Think positive, keep trying different spots and you WILL find gold!

Good luck and good hunting amigo, I hope you find the treasures that you seek. I hope you will keep us posted with the gold you find. :icon_thumleft:
