S MINT MARK NICKELS

The only 'S' mint nickels with silver are 1942-1945 with the mint mark above the Monticello. 1971 to present date 'S' nickels are proofs. no silver.

Depending which yr some s mm nicks are worth a couple bucks- dont chuck them until you find out

Also, there are S mint 1968-1970 proof nickels as well.

Most are circulation strikes, but there were proofs as well.

Some are silver, but you have to guess which ones are.

Only 42-45 nickels with the large mint mark are silver.

so the 42's with no mm overhead are just nickel composition?is that correct.
