S.C. Lieutenant Badge Or Pin Brass?

Uncertain on this item as I found it at a garage sale awhile back.
It appears to have S.C. Lieutenant on the front side, but on the backside looks like it had originally said S.C. Captain. Anyone knows what era this would be from or any information on it would be great thanks!

I'm thinking this is an early 20th C. hat badge. Possibly as late as the 1940's.

Not official US military but from a military school.

Can you get an sense of how many stars are on the flags? That may give a clue about age.

I agree with you. I found some from both police and fire departments that just said "lieutenant" and not "police" or "fire". I just couldn't find the one above.

The style of the eagle is such that it could be fairly early. The Confederate Relic Room in Columbia SC may be able to help. They see more of these type mysteries than anyone else i could think of.
