I didn't find this metal detecting and this might be the wrong place to post this but I.m hoping someone will be able to identify this. I found this in a small box of inexpensive vintage jewelry, (cufflinks, pins etc.) at an estate sale. I got the box for $2.50, it was marked $5.00 but it was the last day so everything was half price. I knew the pocket watch was silver so I couldn't go wrong. When I got it home i finally popped it open and discovered that the face and hands were missing. When I googled the name Breguet I couldn't believe the prices. but I couldn't find "S" Breguet. The watch was black when I got it, I polished it before I got the side open that showed the name. Has anyone ever heard of "S" Breguet? I know there are replicas on the market but this seems too old......Rich.

Holy cow! You might have the find of your life there, if you could just sell it for parts you would probably get a few hundred for it. I looked up a few of the prices and wow. Good luck getting more info on it.

The 'S' may stand for spiral. Cool watch and great bargin deal

What's the name written above 'Patented'?

It says "Remontoir" Also the workings and the case have the same # 80608. It also says "Geneve" thanks Rich.

I'm just learning as I'm searching for this watch. Remontoir means it's stem wind. I think the s. brequet refers to the type of handle (invented in 1801 by Abraham Louis Brequet). This handle design will compensate the interference of gravity loss in the clockworks. The Brequet logo appears to be different.

From the pictures that I have seen, it looks like the "S. Breguet" name is in the spot that you would engrave your name. Is it possible that the person that owned this watch was coincidentally named "Breguet"?...... Rich.

This watch can be worth anywhere from $500 to $120,000 depending on model number, serial number and authenticity. Hope you have the higher end model! Very nice!!! :headbang:

Scott

PS. It might be worth restoring and then the big money could be yours!

I have a feeling that you are correct Rich :icon_scratch: although I hope not, for your sake.
I did find this comment in my searches

Remontoir = Keyless winding [technically, a remontoir is a small spiral spring, continually wound by the mainspring, which provides constant force to the escapement. However, this term is often used on low to medium grade antique Swiss watches simply to mean that the watch features the ''new'' stem winding feature.]

Re: S. Breguet pocket watch UPDATE!

After much research I was sure I did not have a genuine "Breguet" watch. The quality did not match and the logo did not match. I found out from the official Breguet website that between 1890 and 1910 there were more fake Breguet's than originals. The makers would engrave bold letters that said Breguet or Spiral Breguet (hence the "S") Too bad but it's still an interesting conversation piece. I wonder if the vintage knockoffs have any value?.......Rich.

Noticed you also got some nice cuff links in the bargin :icon_thumright: I have no idea as to value, but would guess less than you want to part it for unless you just want good return on your initial investment :D As you state an interesting piece and a good Whatisit  Green check please
