Rust iron with writing. What is it?

What is this piece of metal from? From what I can make out,the writing says "PAT FEB 1876" on the bottom right

Might have to run that one through electrolysis to reveal some more detail.

To me it appears to be a leg from a pot-belly stove. (The small part being the leg with one side missing)
