Obviously, I know this isn't a type of coin...but what is it?

Its a little bigger than a quarter, maybe 1.5 times as thick as a quarter.

Has the #4 stamped towards the bottom.

My first thought was a 4 oz fishing sinker. But theres no way this weighs 4 ounces.

It weighs more like 1 ounce.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

It was found at an 1870's era farmhouse.

That's a lead weight that was sewn into the hem of a dress or curtain to keep one or the other from blowing up in the wind and showing too much.

Weren't these also used in colonial men's coattails? I have two different sizes and was told that is what they were used for.
