I've found three of these in a field I've worked over the last several weeks. All of them are iron and were deep (10-12 inches) and rusted. I thought they were possibly coins when I first dug them, but I cannot see any writing on them, and they are magnetic. (They rang up with a VDI of 03 on a Garrett AT Pro.) All are 2 and 5/16 inches across and weigh 11 grams. I cleaned one of them with electrolysis and a toothbrush. There is a very faded design of some kind on one side. The pictures below show the disc (post-electrolysis) including one photo in which I've highlighted the design on the disc. I've found various items in the same area which indicate activity from the mid to late 1800's, but that doesn't really mean much, as I've also found stuff from the 1970's to present as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Sorry, but after my original post, I needed to add another picture and update some of the info. The discs show signs that they were cut -possibly after being forged in a mold. I've put another picture below to show the cut marks on two of the discs.

Your depiction on the object looks just like a cowbell. Now that you have discovered a possible area on the edge where there could have been a stem attached, maybe these are the clangers for inside of old cowbells? Neat finds! Sub 8-)

Certainly looks right, but these things are heavy. Did they make iron electrical boxes with knockouts?

Steel is more dense and therefore weighs more than cast iron by volume.

Also the older electrical boxes were made of a heavier gauge steel than they are today. And I agree it is a knockout.

Okay, thanks to everyone who contributed! I'll mark this as solved!
