Round ball and a trap

Today we had a decent day. Tree found a round ball and I found a S. Newhouse No.4 trap. The trap is complete and works! I cant make out the patent number on it . Should i clean it up a little and how?

That's a awesome trap, I've always wanted to find one. Search several old trapper cabins up along the Canadian border but never had much luck. I would leave it as is and hang it in the man cave, nice find.
