Been hunting a construction site in an old part of town.
Most of the finds are from the earlier part of the 20th century; however, the area I'm in is much older, and has lots of history.
Yesterday i dug this round crusty aluminum tag. Couldn't read anything at first, but now I'm starting to make out some details.
The tag is an 1-1/4" in diameter.

2ND REGIMENT
CO E.
23

Any ideas about this one? such as date, type, use, etc.

Thanks Cypress. Kind of what I'm thinking too.
I have never seen a aluminum tag that was civil war or earlier. Not saying they don't exist.
Hopefully others will chime in on this one.

Also the lack of serifs in the lettering points to after the turn of the century

Very interesting. Thanks for the ID.
This would be something that I would be willing to donate to a veteran, if you know anyone interested.
Thanks again.

it looks exactly like a WW1 dog tag, which I think it is.... but it's not for a soldier. I would guess it was used to id a piece of equipment but exactly what will be really hard to say.
