Howdy,
I dug this recently at a farm where I have dug colonial stuff all the way up to zincolns. When I dug it I wasn't very interested in it and stuck it in my bag. At the end of the day as I was going through the crapola, I saw that the dirt that fell off began to display a design. I cleaned it up and found a makers mark on the back, but I can't make out the word. It seems to be brass, a three piece construction, consisting of the front, back, and a a circle that lays around the edges of both pieces and joins them together. It is the size of a rosette, but without the filled back or attachments. It seems really well made, and I think it may be something cool, but I don't know. I cannot make out the design on the front or the words in the maker's mark, although I THINK there is a crown in the middle of the two circles in the maker's mark. I have included pics of the front, back, and a design of the maker's mark. I thought I'd let more experienced eyes take a look at t. Note: This area had French and Indian War activity very near.
Thanks,
Kevo
