Found this in a farm field today. It was down about 8 inches.
The obverse is copper or brass and the reverse shows some iron content.
Only one of two posts remain and the crossbar is gone. The remaining partial post if offset from center as you would find with a bridle rosette.

Would appreciate opinions on whether this may be the remains of a plain bridle rosette.

Definitely yes, a "plain" bridle rosette. That ironbacked version dates from the late-1800s through early 1900s. I don't think it's still being manufactured, but I could be incorrect about that.

Thx TheCannonballGuy! Up on these ridge fields I also found a number of brass horse buckles, iron buckles and a large cent(1850) and Connecticut copper(1787).
