Hello friends, my forte is garage sales, but recently have ventured into storage units. I won a storage unit a few days ago. This would be my 6th. They all have been disasters, except last week's when I found a 37g 14k necklace. On Fri I won another one. The pictures showed nothing as the door "was jammed", and would not go up. It was only opened about 2 feet. It was a 10x15. Needless to say, it was a complete disaster. Old crappy clothes, housewares, shoes, dilapidated mattresses, useless junk....and yes, lots and lots of rat poop! It was a nightmare, but with the help of a friend, I manged to cleaned it up like new for the facility. I had to do 3 trips to the landfill in a 15 foot uhaul truck at $1.19 per mile. I'm starting to think that this was all a set up by the facility. They knew what they had in store for them, and needed a pawn! It was a costly unit not only in money, but time and effort. I learned my lesson. Has anybody had similar experiences? What has been your worst facility?

I've never given much thought of throwing money down on this type of enterprise, but I'm thinking there ways to improve your results through experience and seeking advice from those who've been successful at it. I'd say if you find yourself again roped into a bum deal like you just described, you might just play it safe with the estate and garage sale routine, which you seem to do pretty well at.

Thank you for the advice, I appreciate it. The summer has been challenging here in Central, Fla for garage sales, so for fun and the experience, I've bid on some local auctions. All the best.

Yeah I guess if you need to expand it's probably worth the risk. Me I'm gonna stick with the small potatoes.
