I am new to this forum, and would first like to say hello to all. I recently started hunting rocks in an area behind my house. One day 2-1/2 years ago I was walking through the woods and noticed a perfect shaped golf ball size Garnet. It was rusty and pitted, but shaped perfectly. Since then I have found a lot of Garnets, but still looking for the source. Here are some pics of my findings.

So where are you finding these ? Plates with mica schist looks similar to what I found at my farm, Treasure Valley in Western North Carolina. Your garnets appear to be larger than the ones here. Oh yes almost forgot welcome to the forum.

Those are cool. I have a decent sized piece of property here and I have been finding a ton of gemstones and other cool rocks all around my property. I think I am finding so much here because I am right by the mountains.

Looks like they occur in mica schist alternatively phyllite. Nice specimens!
