I received permission to work a large piece of land today. It was a little cold so gloves I thought would be a good idea. I started working the area in one corner and got a few hits right away, unfortunately it was all junk. I then worked a large area and after about 45 minutes I noticed I didn't get a single hit. Just out of luck I looked down and noticed the sensitivity setting on my AT Pro was down to zero...!!!! With my gloves on I must have pushed the button all the way down while I was pin pointing....... I reset my settings and looked at the area I just covered and had to tell myself twice to go back over that area again. Much to my delight I started getting hits right away. My first hit was a 1813 Liberty cent, about 15 minutes later I found a 1800 Liberty half cent...!!!!! Up to today, my oldest coin was 1945. The coins are not in real good shape, but they are 200 and 213 years old...!!! I only covered about 3 percent of the area I have permission to hunt, so maybe more are there for the finding...!!!!!!

Congratulations on 2 awesome finds! Show us some photos when you get the chance. I'd love to see them. Glad you were able to sort the problem out and start scoring targets.

Maybe not such a "rookie" mistake. I had the same sort of problem today! I'd just bought some new, heavier gloves today because I knew it would be cold. I finally had to take them off once I noticed that I couldn't pinpoint without pushing other buttons. (not to worry though, I carried my back up gloves along with me. :) )

Sounds like great coins!

HH!

Great finds, looks like you're at a good colonial hot spot :headbang: Hope you can find some more good 18th century coins, would love too see the 1800 half liberty!!! Keep at it! :occasion14:

Wow, that sounds amazing! Great finds! Can you post some pics?

Great coin finds. Now turn the discrimination down and dig all those military buttons, civil war relics, and other items that are more valuable and scarce than the coins. My advice is to post everything you find from that site, since you don't normally dig relics that old. Folks on here can help ID items that would otherwise get thrown away or remain in a junk bin. Takes no time to toss a photo up and ask "Anything good here?" or "What is this stuff?"

Great finds, and I look forward to seeing more come from that site.

Cheers,

Buck
