Rookie Detector in Pinellas County Florida

Hi everyone. I moved to the Safety Harbor area of Pinellas County, Florida about a year ago. I bought my detector about 6 months ago and learned that I have no idea what I'm doing...yet!

Welcome to TN, what detector do you have and what kind of detecting? Land, water?

Hello and welcome from Iowa

Thanks for the welcomes, everyone! I have a Garrett Ace 250 and pretty much only detect on land. I took it out with the missus twice and found it frustrating and confusing, but I definitely see potential fun with it. I decided I'd like to find a MD mentor to show me the ropes on how/where to use it. I started off in my back yard but discovered there are too many cables and bits of stuff down there to practice well.

I just left pinellas county yesterday. I actually found 70 cents just walking around parking meters. Too funny!!

The problem I'm finding is not knowing where I'm allowed to be and where can I go to actually find things. Also, having someone around to show me the little tricks of the trade first hand is pretty nice. Florida is getting notorious for being tough on metal detecting anywhere but narrow strips of sand on the beach, I hear.

I live in Orlando Florida and have hunted parks all over central Florida, I'm a beach hunter but I do hunt land... I have hunted dozens and dozens of city and and county parks. I don't find Florida tough at all....
