ROMAN SPINDLE WHORL?

I believe this is a Roman spindle whorl. Just can't figure out if it's stone, pottery or degrading bone. It is 37.5mm in diameter and 5 mm thick. The center hole is 5.5mm wide. What do you guys think?

Where did you get/find it? Why do you think Roman? Native Americans and colonist used them also.

Basing it on the style of others I've researched, though there are some from the middle east that look similar also. It was a freebie at a garage sale last weekend. Most likely but you can't rule out Saxon.
