Hi Westfront.
I am sure they were not seen as coins, but rather at a store of silver.
They were surely ment to be made into brooches or other jewelry.
As to the spreading of the coins, this is quite normal where the fields have been ploughed for many years.
This can mean two things. 1) Small hoard lost on the place. 2) The top of a larger hoard situated deeper in the soil.
Only next years searches will show this.
The find will be reported to the museum, and they might even want to excavate the site, I don´t know that yet.
